Toyota MR2 Features

Toyota MR2 is a 2-door, 2-passenger convertible, available in one trim only, the Convertible. Toyota MR2  is equipped with a standard 1.8-liter, I4, 138-horsepower engine that achieves 26-mpg in the city and 32-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard, and a 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive is optional.

The Technical in-how

  • The Toyota MR2 Spyder uses a 1.8-liter 4-cyl engine and comes with a conventional 5-speed manual transmission or a sequential manual transmission.
  • The Toyota MR2 is now a 6-speed unit instead of a 5 speed.
  • Toyota MR2 uses computer control to eliminate the clutch pedal. A floor-mounted lever inside Toyota MR2 moves forward for upshifts, back for downshifts; steering-wheel shift buttons are a separate option.
  • Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are standard for Toyota MR2.
  • Toyota MR2 has a manual-folding top with heated glass rear window.
  • For 2003 Toyota MR2, exterior changes include a reshaped nose, new headlamps and taillights, and color-keyed instead of black side air intakes.
  • Toyota MR2 also gets restyled gauges, chrome and metal-look interior trim, standard fog lights, and a power antenna in place of a fixed mast type.
  • MR2 Toyota is a modern sports car with back-to-the-roots feel. Like some Ferraris, its engine is mounted just behind the passenger compartment and ahead of the rear wheels, providing great balance and handling.
  • Toyota MR2 VVT-i engine uses variable-valve timing, but it doesn't generate a big surge of power when it switches to the high-power cam profile. The maximum torque of 125 foot-pounds comes at 4400 rpm, so you have to be in the correct gear to get those revs if you want to zip away without bogging.
  • Toyota MR2 is a great little sports car with impressive technology in the engine, chassis and gearbox. Its acceleration is exciting thanks to its light weight, yet the ride is solid and admirable.
  • Toyota MR2 featured four wheel independent suspension and disc brakes all around, the fronts being vented.
  • Toyota MR2 fuel consumption is superb for a sports car if you can restrain yourself and drive sensibly.
